And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth
nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; 1 Nephi 17:3

Day 285

August 27, 2018

Hello everybody!

Just another ordinary week here in Russell Springs! This week one of the elders here got his mission call going to Chile, so that was cool. We didn't get to see him open it because he lives 45 minutes away in the middle of nowhere, but it's still such an amazing experience to get to know where you are needed by the Lord. I think his dad was more excited about it than he was! On Saturday we pretty much just tracted all day and while we were doing it this super friendly dog followed us for probably a mile before it was attacked by another dog and left. That was sad, but after the two hours with that dog I understand why missionaries aren't allowed to have pets. We also had someone text us almost exactly what 2 Nephi 29: 3 says. A picture will be provided.

The Elders here in the Liberty area were moved to Russell Springs about 7 months ago because they were in Liberty for 13 years, and there's only so much you can do in Liberty. So we have been knocking doors in downtown Russell Springs like crazy, and just like Liberty, there are only so many doors you can knock before you have to start traveling to the boonies to find people. That Is starting to happen. We are slowly running out of good new places to knock, and finding less people than we were when we started, but at least we are still able to find some. Nobody has really progressed all that much here yet, but there are a few people who do have some pretty good potential. The problem is getting them to drive 25 miles. But it's just like in the Bill Carpenter conversion story where he asked his mission President, "President, you want me to get people to drive 60 miles to come to church?" And the President responded, "Yes, because it's true." If people really understood the importance of the message that we shared with them, they would come from all over the world just like the early pioneers did. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true AND LIVING. Meaning that the Lord will direct his prophet and his people depending upon the circumstances of society and show us the best way to live our lives so we can be safe, happy, and full of love and hope. I hope everybody is doing fine at home. I love you all!

Love,
Elder Stephen Ray
