Hello!
I know all of you are just dying to know what happened with Elder Terry and I this week! So I guess I'll let you know! Well, this week was great! We had some super sweet lessons! Ima tell you about some of them. We had a good lesson with Wayne and we watched Joseph Smith Prophet of the Restoration with him (and turns out there are a bunch of different versions of that movie and I forgot about that so we just turned it on and I was like, "wait, I don't remember this being in here!" Or "wait, where was that part? They took that out?" ) but it all turned out well! He is doing good and we committed him to pray about a baptismal date. We also had a sweet lesson with the Stangers! The Waltmans invited us over for dinner so we invited the Stangers and it was awesome! They got to know more people in the ward and they had a good time and then we talked about temples with them! They have said over and over how they wish they grew up in this faith because it just makes sense and everybody is actually happier. They don't just appear to be happy, but they have joy.
Anyways, now about my title. So last night we were trying by one of the people we are teaching and they weren't home, so we went over to their neighbors because they were outside and started to talk to them. They were pretty nice and for the first 3rd of the conversation the Spirit was there. He had a concern about 2 Nephi where it says "it is by grace we are saved after all we can do." Now, there are a lot of different interpretations of that scripture which I'm not going to get into, but we talked about that and the relationship between justice and mercy and faith and works and he said something to the effect of, "the way you're saying it, it sounds like exactly what I believe, but I know there is more to it that you aren't telling me." Welp. We tried helping him understand and then he brought out his bible and there were so many things he brought up which just didn't hold water. He says that he can't trust a religion who's doctrines keep changing over time. I asked him to think about 1. The law of Moses being fulfilled and 2. The Gospel being preached to the Jews only and then later to the Gentiles. All in all, he did bring up good points, but eventually it all comes down to if we are willing to put in the effort to find out it is true. If you are trying to disprove it, you cant. If you are trying to prove it, you can't. But the Spirit can tell you that it is true and I know it is.
Well, that was our adventure this week. This upcoming week we are going to be super busy! We have MLC tomorrow and then two exchanges the next to days, 2 district councils and interviews. It's gonna be exciting! I love you all! Thank you for all your support!
Love, Elder Ray.
