And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth
nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; 1 Nephi 17:3

The Prodigal Son's Dad Returns

Hello!

This is Elder Ray and Elder Mills! I don't know if you remember, but he was my trainer! And now he has a whole four weeks left in the mission! My other companion, Elder McHenry, has been called to be the new assistant to the President, so they just switched places on Sunday night! Man, I love Elder Mills so much! This is gonna be a great 4 weeks, and it's really weird because I get to send my trainer home haha! On Thursday we had zone conference and I had to give a training about the word of wisdom to all the missionaries there, so that was cool, but after that, President Hughes asked if he could talk to me and immediately everything I'd ever done wrong went through my mind, but he just asked me if I was good with taking over the area and if it would be okay if my companion left me that weekend, and I was like, "sure." But I couldn't tell Elder McHenry about it yet. So the next night we got a call and he told us Elder McHenry was going to be an assistant and that my trainer was coming back to Shelbyville with me! My Very first District with my first companion in the field. That was weird, but it's going to be great!

Anyways, this week was pretty good! We had another amazing visit with Phil and he played some songs for us and we sang and it was awesome! We talked about the Word of Wisdom with him and he pretty much already accepted and lived everything we taught so that was easy. We had a really really good lesson with Paul also where we taught him the word of wisdom fully and explained all of the blessings and why and how god wants us to live it. As it says in the scriptures, it is a "principle with a promise." The Principle is this: Don't put trash into your body, take care of it. The promises are these: we can always have the spirit with us, we will gain knowledge and hidden treasures of wisdom, we will run and not be weary or faint, we will be healthy, the destroying angel will pass us by, but most importantly, we can live with our families and with God for all of eternity. It's a matter of love. Do I love this cigarette or my family more, because in a very real sense that is what it being said. Every commandment God gives us is for our benefit and we've been able to teach the word of wisdom a lot this week and also see many of the blessings in peoples lives as they strive to live it. I'm sure this week will be full of wonderful adventures and I will tell you all about it next week! Piece.

Love, Elder Ray
